Two arrested with illegal liquor in Wennappuwa

A coordinated operation conducted by the Navy along with the Coast Guard and Wennappuwa Police led to the arrest of 2 persons and seizure of illicit liquor in Nainamadama, Wennappuwa on 4 September 2026.

The operation was conducted near the Gin Oya following information received by the Coast Guard. The raiding party seized 3 barrels containing 300 litres of ‘goda’, a fermented substance used in the production of illicit liquor, 5 empty barrels, 2 cans containing 80 litres of illegal liquor and two copper coils.

The 2 suspects, both aged 38, were identified as residents of Waikkala. The suspects, the seized liquor and the equipment were handed over to Wennappuwa Police for onward legal proceedings.
