SLN to facilitate release of Indian Fishermen and their boats
Under the direction of His Excellency the President, steps have been taken to release all the Indian fishermen and Indian fishing boats in the Sri Lankan custody with immediate effect. Accordingly, SLN has initiated immediate action to facilitate the release of the remaining 98 Indian fishermen and 28 Indian boats in the Sri Lankan Custody.
As a humanitarian gesture, SLN has assisted the repatriation of Indian fishermen and boats released from Sri Lankan custody after their arrest for poaching in the Sri Lankan waters. SLN vessels were deployed to escort them to the IMBL as well as to rescue the Indian fishermen in distress and assist the salvage of Indian fishing boats stranded and run-aground due to mechanical defects.
