Navy rescues 87 persons from Floods
Naval personnel deployed on rescue operations in the flood affected areas were able to save the lives of 87 persons. Sixty (60) persons were rescued in Pelawatte and 13 persons were rescued in Agalawatte. They saved 10 persons in Welipenna and 4 persons in Pitigala.
In response to the floods affecting the several areas in the Kalutara district due to the adverse weather conditions, Sri Lanka Navy deployed its Rapid Response Rescue and Release Squadron personnel on flood relief duties to render assistance to the people affected.
Ten Naval teams with inflatable rescue boats (IRBs) were dispatched for rescue assistance in liaison with respective Government officials in the Kalutara district. Naval personnel evacuated the people trapped in homes and buildings and ferried them to safe places. Additional rescue teams were kept stand-by in the Southern and Western Naval Areas for emergency deployments.
