Navy rescues 122 persons from floods

Naval personnel deployed on rescue operations in the flood affected areas were able to save the lives of 122 persons. Eighty six (86) persons were rescued in Pelawatte, 12 persons in Kudaligama and 05 persons in Miriswatta. They saved 10 persons in Welipenna, 4 persons in Pitigala and 5 persons in Kiribathgoda.

In response to the floods affecting several areas in the island due to the adverse weather conditions, Sri Lanka Navy deployed its personnel on flood relief duties to render assistance to the people affected. Naval personnel are engaged in evacuation of people to safe areas. They are also assisting in the distribution of cooked meals provided by the relevant authorities and providing medical assistance to the sick and the wounded in the flood-hit areas.
