Navy rescues 334 persons from floods
Naval personnel deployed on rescue operations in the flood affected areas were able to save the lives of 334 persons. 229 persons were rescued in Pelawatte, 12 persons in Kudaligama, 45 persons in Palinda Nuwara and 5 persons in Miriswatta. They saved 10 persons in Welipenna, 20 persons in Ihalawelgama, 4 persons in Pitigala, 04 persons in Polegoda and 5 persons in Kiribathgoda.
In response to the floods affecting several areas in the island due to the adverse weather conditions, Sri Lanka Navy deployed its personnel on flood relief operations to render assistance to the people affected. Naval personnel are engaged in evacuation of people to safe areas and assisting in the distribution of cooked meals provided by the relevant authorities.
