Sri Lanka Navy assists the repatriation of 33 Indian fishermen
Sri Lanka Navy assisted the repatriation of 33 Indian fishermen. They were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard Ship “Rajkamal” in the seas off Mannar on 05thJune 2014. The repatriation was made as directed by His Excellency the President as a goodwill gesture.
Among the repatriated were 29 Indian fishermen released from Sri Lankan custody after their arrest for poaching in Sri Lankan waters. Four fishermen were rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy while in distress in the north-western seas due to a defect in their fishing trawler.
Naval patrol craft attached to the Northern Naval Command were deployed for the humanitarian mission.
