Navy arrests 40 fishermen engaged in illegal fishing
 

Naval troops attached to SLNS Kanchadewa of the Northern Naval Command arrested 34 fishermen and 12 fishing boats engaged in illegal fishing using prohibited fishing gears Settipuram and Velanithurei beach area. Meanwhile naval troops attached to SLNS Gajaba of the North Central Naval Command arrested 06 fishermen and a fishing boat South of Mannar on 06th September 2014.

The arrested persons with items were handed over to the Fishery Inspector in Velani and Assistant Director Fisheries in Mannar for further investigations.
