Navy extends its flood relief operations to Matale & Mannar 
 
The navy has extended its flood relief operations to the Matale and Mannar districts with effect from 25th December 2014. The Navy flood relief teams are now in deployment in 07 districts that include Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Ampara districts. One hundred forty-nine (149) naval personnel, 62 FGDs and 05 IRBs are rendering assistance in coordination with DMC and relevant Divisinal Secretariats in the areas affected by the prevailing inclement weather.
SLN personnel have been able to rescue 279 civilians during their flood relief operations. So far seventy-five (75) persons were rescued in Tabbowa, 19 persons in Pansalgodalla, 21 persons in Galenbindunuwewa, 39 persons in Rajanganaya, 26 persons in Nochchiyagama, 06 persons in Sungawil, 35 persons in Shrawathipura, 13 persons in Saliyawewa, 06 persons from Anuradapura prison, 06 persons in Purawasathivu, 03 persons in Madukre, 15 persons in Kadikawa and 15 persons in Katupotha. The Navy is monitoring the situation and additional relief teams are standby for contingency deployments.
