Navy arrests 4 fishermen engaged in illegal fishing
 
 

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba of the North Central Naval Command arrested 03 persons with an FGD, 800 grams of Gelignite (08 sticks), 02 pairs of diving fins, 02 pair of diving goggles and 08 non-electric detonators intended to be used in illegal fishing in the seas off South of Mannar on 30th April 2015. The arrested persons with the items were handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director (Mannar) for further action.

Naval troops attached to SLNS Kashyapa of the Eastern Naval Command also arrested a person with six (6) illegal fishing nets on the suspicion of illegal fishing in the general area Arayampathi in Trincomalee on the same day. In a separate incident, naval personnel attached to Naval Deployment Batticaloa of the same naval command took into their custody an illegal fishing net at a location close to the Batticaloa lagoon on 29th April 2015. The arrested person and the seven (7) illegal fishing nets were handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Directors (Batticaloa) for further action.
