Fleet Command and Training Command secure Inter-Command Rugby titles
The Sri Lanka Navy Inter-Command Rugby Championship 2026 concluded at the SLNS Uttara ground in the Northern Naval Command. The tournament, which ran from 8 to 10 July, saw the Fleet Command win the men’s championship and the Training Command claim the women’s title.
In the men’s Cup final, Fleet Command defeated Eastern Command by 12 points to 10 in a close contest, leaving Eastern Command as runners-up. The women’s Cup final saw Training Command secure a 5-0 victory over Northern Command to take the championship, with the hosts finishing as runners-up.
In the Plate category, Training Command won the men's title ahead of runners-up Northern Command. Fleet Command secured the women’s Plate championship, while Southern Command finished second.
The Bowl category titles were claimed by Western Command in the men's tournament and Eastern Command in the women's tournament.
Individual honours were awarded to Lieutenant CP Seneviratne of the Fleet Command, who was named the Best Player (men) of the tournament. Ordinary Seaman RMSS Ratnayake of the Training Command received the award for the Best Player (women), while Commander Anuradha Deshapriya won the award for the Best Veteran Player.
Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, graced the final day of the championship as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by the Secretary Navy Rugby as well as a group of officers and sailors.
