The 78th National Independence Day ceremony of Sri Lanka was held at the Independence Square, Colombo this morning (04 Feb 26). The main ceremony went by the theme “Rebuilding Sri Lanka”, was held under the patronage of the President and Commander – in – Chief of the Armed Forces, Hon. Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Filled with great pride, the Sri Lanka Navy added glamour to the elegant national spectacle held in a dignified sequence.

In continuation of its commitment towards enhancing public health and community welfare, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant (01), set up by the Sri Lanka Navy, was declared open for community use on 29 Jan 26 in the village of Aralaganwila in Dimbulagala, Polonnaruwa.

The High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka, H.E. Matthew Duckworth met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda at the Navy Headquarters on 30 Jan 26.

Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardana, who was appointed as the Chief Hydrographer of the Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service (SLNHS), assumed duties at the office of Sri Lanka Navy Hydrograph service (SLNHS).

The Sri Lanka Navy delivered a noteworthy performance at the National Taekwondo Kyorugi Championship - 2026, securing a total of 09 medals and showcasing martial prowess. The championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation, was held from 23 to 25 Jan 26 at the Sports Ministry Indoor Stadium in Wathupitiwala.

The Pre Command Training Course No 14 concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on 23 Jan 26. The culminating ceremony was held under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, at the invitation of the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Commodore Danesh Pathberiya.

The Sri Lanka Navy on 24 Jan 26 rendered assistance for restoration of premises at the Galle Fisheries Harbour, in support of the national “Clean Sri Lanka” programme.

The Sri Lanka Navy Muaythai team showcased formidable skill and competitive spirit at the Sri Lanka Muaythai National Championship 2026, securing a total of eight medals. The two-day national-level event, organized by the Sri Lanka Muaythai Federation, was held on 07 and 08 Jan 26 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

In a continued commitment to community welfare, the Sri Lanka Navy organized a blood donation programme at the District General Hospital, Mullaitivu on 23 Jan 26.

The Royal Navy of Oman Ship ‘AL SEEB’ concluded a logistics replenishment visit to Sri Lanka, departing from the Port of Colombo on 24 Jan 26. In accordance with naval tradition, the Sri Lanka Navy extended a customary farewell to the departing ship.
