In a proactive measure to mitigate flood risks and ensure public safety following heavy rainfall, the Sri Lanka Navy conducted a series of debris clearance operations at key bridges spanning the Gin River and other locations.

To address this, clearance operations were initially carried out from 26 to 29 Nov 25 at the Agaliya, Waduwelivitiya, Mulkada, Awiththawa, and Dodangoda bridges along the Gin River. Building on this effort, the Navy mounted a follow-on operation today (04 December), to clear the blockages at the bridges of Agaliya in Galle and Maningamuwa in Kurunegala.

Remaining ever alert to this nature of developments, the Sri Lanka Navy often clears blockages beneath bridges, to avert possible flood threat in low-lying areas.
