The Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Zaeri Amirani called on the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo on 04th April 2016.

At an impressive Commissioning Parade held at the main parade ground of the Naval and Maritime Academy, the premier seat of learning of the Sri Lanka Navy, in Trincomalee today (03), 44 Midshipmen belonging to the 29th (Technical) and 30th intakes of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) passed out as Commissioned Naval Officers of the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne declared open a new two-storied building at Naval and Maritime Academy today (3) at the invitation of the Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Neil Rosayro.

Naval personnel attached to Sri Lanka Naval Dockyard arrested ten local fishermen, along with a Fiber Glass Dinghy, engaged in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets in the seas off Norway Island, Trincomalee on 02nd April 2016. During the arrest, a pairs of diving fins and a Hebili net were taken into custody.

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya in Kalpitiya arrested seven local fishermen with 3 FGD engaged in illegal fishing between Udappuwa and Sinnapadu sea areas on 2nd April 2016.

A series of religious ceremonies in commemoration of the 13th death anniversary of the late prelate of Nagadeepa Viharaya in Nainativu, most Ven. Brahmanawaththe Dammakithti Thera, was held under the guidance of the chief incumbent of Nagadeepa Viharaya, most Ven.

Naval troops attached to SLNS Therapuththa of North Western Naval Command apprehended 4 persons while transferring 15.4 kg of Opium in Silawathurai area on 1st April 2016.

Launched in Karainagar Island in Jaffna peninsula on 19th February 2016, the Navy’s Kayaking Expedition Team circumnavigated the Island and reached the point of origin at Karainagar on 02nd April 2016, completing 1251 kms arduous and exhausting paddling through waters of Western, Southern, Eastern and Northern seaboard.

Three hundred and twenty - eight naval recruits belonging to the 225thregular intake of the Sri Lanka Navy passed out at SLNS Shiksha in Poonewa today (02) after successful completion of their basic training. The Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest and took the salute.

During a joint mission carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau, a haul of 101 kg of narcotics was apprehended whilst transferring through the Southern costal belt of Sri Lanka. The consignment which was apprehended on 30th March 2016, is said to be the largest ever stock of narcotics apprehended at sea in the recent history.
