The Sri Lanka Navy which boasts unmatched achievements and held in high esteem as the country’s First Line of Defence, is proudly celebrating its 70th anniversary today (09th December). As part of the anniversary celebrations, a wide range of events are being held in every naval command , giving prominence to time-honoured naval traditions and religious events, under the directives and guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. On the sidelines of these celebrations, capital ships of the Sri Lanka Navy have been brought to the anchorage off the Galle Face Green and the ships will be there from 09th to 13th December, with a view to reach the general public with better awareness of the Navy. The central theme of this exhibition is ‘This is Your Navy’ and ‘Know Your Navy’. Arrangements have also been made to make the public known about the prowess and role of these ships, through media.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (07th December 2020) addressed the course No. 14 at Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) Sapugaskanda.

Upon completion of his naval career spanning over 34 years, Rear Admiral Vijitha Meddegoda retired from the Sri Lanka Navy today (04th December 2020).

His Excellency Eric LAVERTU, Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka met with Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera at the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters in Trincomalee on 01st December 2020.

The outgoing Defence Adviser at the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka, Group Captain Sean Unwin and his successor Captain Ian Cain called on Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (01^st December 2020).

The guided missile cruiser ‘Variag’, large anti-submarine ship ‘Admiral Panteleev’ and medium ocean tanker "Pechenga" of the Russian Federation arrived at the port of Trincomalee on 30^th November 2020.

Rear Admiral AARK Perera today (30^th November 2020) bade farewell to his illustrious naval career which spanned over 33 years.

The second stage of three-week long continuous Pirith chanting at the Independence Square commenced for its second week in coordination with Sri Lanka Navy. This meritorious event which got underway with the aim of invoking blessings on the country and its people plagued by novel coronavirus was attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne on 25th November 2020.

On successful completion of their Marine Basic Qualifying Course conducted by Sri Lanka Navy Marine Battalion, 04 officers and 50 sailors passed out at SLNS Vidura in Sampoor, Trincomalee on 24th November 2020.

Showing its pious sentiments, Sri Lanka Navy organized a “Kanchuka” Pooja and a ceremony to invoke blessings on naval flags under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne on 12^th and 13^th November 2020. The two events were held at the Ruwanwelisaya and Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, in view of the forthcoming 70^th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, falling on 09^th December 2020. The events were also attended by the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne.
